We  are proud to introduce you to our expert blogger, Mia Papanicolaou, Vice President, General Manager at Striata, a Doxim company.

Connect with me:

What's your backstory (how did you come to be working for Doxim)?

I’ve always had a passion for communication and started out as a journalist in the technology field. The need to get news out at a faster rate than the bi-monthly print and at a time when email was gaining traction as a means for getting information out quickly, meant that this was a perfect medium to use. From that time, I was hooked.

I soon joined eMessageX.com (the company that managed our email communications), as Business Director. We were a boutique email marketing agency and were acquired by Striata in 2006, where I took up the position of Head of eMarketing.

In 2010 I moved to the UK and took on the role of Head of Operations for the UK team and in 2013 headed to the US as General Manager and subsequent COO of the Striata US operation. Now as VP/GM I’m excited to be heading up strategic consulting and helping companies in their digital transformation efforts within the Doxim group.

What has been the greatest influence on your career?

Email as a medium for mass communication. It completely changed my career path. I was lucky enough to see it blossom - from merely sending text emails to get news out quickly, to understanding the psychology and art behind a well designed and composed email.

If you could travel anywhere - where would it be?

I would have to say Japan. It’s been on my bucket list for many years and has certainly bubbled to the top since lockdown.

What do you see as the biggest challenge to operating in today's world?

Understanding that the status quo changes in the blink of an eye. Beyond technology advancing rapidly and customer expectations increasing daily, external influences impact companies - from natural disasters, to pandemics. If we aren’t ready to change, be malleable and have a way to implement tech and process changes quickly, it will mean the start of a contracting or dying business.

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

Being active! Dancing and kickboxing are my passion. The dance floor is a happy place and punching the bag is strangely meditative. I’ve also taken up running and cycling during the pandemic, as a way to stay active and they’ve both become quick favorites in balancing out my day.

As a child, what did you think you would grow up to be?

An artist. I had no doubt about it either.

What do you appreciate most about working at Doxim?

There has always been complete support of my role and ideas. It’s truly a company that supports growth, goals and gets behind new objectives or suggestions.

What is your area of focus?

Strategic consulting. Understanding trends in the market and how they impact communication and how companies can improve the customer experience using digital communication as a tool.

How has the business changed since you joined?

It has grown exponentially and continues to do so. As a digital-first company, being nimble to change has helped with this growth. It has grown to be a truly global business, built from the ground up, that I’m so proud to be a part of.

How do you think CCM and CEM is going to change over the next couple years?

Customer expectations will impact the market moving forward, compared to process changes that propelled the CCM and CEM market previously. Content and documents will need to be tailored to the needs of the customer and personalized in new ways that add far more value to the consumer. We will continue to move to digital alternatives, which opens up the door for more enhancements to the output.
