We are proud to introduce you to our new, expert blogger, Jason Pothen, Regional Vice President, Utilities and CCM Healthcare Expert at Doxim
Jason, who, together with his team, is passionate about connecting customers with solutions in the utilities, healthcare, and consumer finance markets. Read on to learn more about Jason, including his love for the Swiss mountains and chocolate (of course)...
What's your backstory (how did you come to be working for Doxim)?
I have spent over 20 years of my career providing both traditional and digital communication solutions to clients in highly regulated industries. My introduction to Doxim came at a pivotal time when organizations were struggling to adapt to the new environment brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to move to a digital-first strategy created a seismic shift in our industry.
The question turned from “why”, to “how”, and more importantly, “how quickly”. Doxim has the expertise to not only provide seamlessly integrated solutions to power this transformation, but the consulting expertise to create more dynamic communications and drive better adoption. I just had to be a part of this and was thrilled at the opportunity to join Doxim.
As a child, what did you want to be and what has been the greatest influence on your career?
As a young child, I wanted to grow up to be Grizzly Adams. Then I learned that a wild grizzly was more likely to eat you than befriend you, so I settled on Plan B – becoming Eddie Van Halen. Clearly, neither of these things happened.
At the point of entering the workforce, I was intent on being a designer/animator. Then I took my first graphic design job, and the owner of the company suggested I take over customer service for him. In his words, “you talk too much, let’s put those words to good use.” The rest, as they say, is history…
What do you see as the biggest challenge to operating in today's world?
Building both internal and external relationships as we continue to normalize within the virtual workplace. How do leaders provide opportunities for team building, networking, and relationship development? What does the culture of a modern virtual office look like, and how do we positively influence it?
Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
I love spending time outdoors with my family camping, hiking, biking, and skiing in the winter. I also enjoy playing guitar and listening to live music . . . (remembers live music fondly). One of my ultimate places to travel is the Lauterbrunnen Valley in the Swiss Alps. The mountains hold a very special place for me, and where are there better-looking mountains than Switzerland? Plus, chocolate, I guess.
What do you appreciate most about working at Doxim and what is your area of focus?
The talented leaders and people I get to work with day in and day out! There is a high level of passion for the business, and it shows. My team specializes in connecting customers with solutions in the utilities, healthcare and consumer finance markets.
How do you think CCM is going to change over the next couple of years?
Customer communications management (CCM) is currently undergoing a major shift to digital-first strategies, however many of the challenges organizations faced using traditional print channels still exist. Disparate data systems, complex business rule management, the ability to ensure regulatory compliance, data security, and customer preference management. Fortunately, these are all problems that integrated CCM providers have been solving for years.
Point solutions simply lack the breadth and expertise to manage the complexities of communicating in a regulatory world, leaving the burden on the client to stitch it all together. I think the future is bright for CCM, it’s still an emerging technology in some regards, but one that will continue to provide increasing value in a digital world.
